Maximus, a leading provider of government services, has been awarded a new contract by the DC Department of Human Services (DHS) to manage the District of Columbia’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Employment and Education Program.
This contract will see Maximus administering both Education and Occupational Training (EOT) and Job Placement (JP) Services for families in need.
Enhancing Skills for Stable Employment
Under this new contract, Maximus aims to help families build the skills and education necessary for stable, family-sustaining employment. The company’s approach will include coaching, career pathway guidance, and business services.
The program will also offer home visits and provide both in-person and virtual services to accommodate different preferences.
Additionally, a newly updated program website will feature live chat for customers who prefer digital engagement or have questions about the program.
Maximus believes that maintaining consistency throughout the employment journey is crucial. As a result, customers will work with the same case manager from start to finish.
This continuity fosters a stronger, more trusting relationship between the customer and their case manager, which is key to successful long-term engagement.
Notably, about one-third of the staff members supporting this initiative are former program participants, which helps them relate to the customers they serve.
Helping Families Break the Cycle of Poverty
Maximus has been providing TANF case management and employment services to the District of Columbia since 2000, helping thousands of families escape the cycle of poverty.
The company’s focus is on supporting job-seeking individuals by creating personalized roadmaps for success, connecting them with training and education providers, and offering vocational training in high-growth industries.
“Our long-standing presence in the DC community gives us a unique insight into local hiring needs and the social services required to meet the challenges faced by residents,” said Lisa Simmons, Vice President of Human Services at Maximus.
“Our extensive network of community partners enables us to effectively reduce barriers to employment and ensure residents have access to the support they need to succeed.”
